Gummo

11:55pm - Friday, Mar 4, 2016

"Life is beautiful. Really, it is. Full of beauty and illusions. Life is great. Without it, you'd be dead."

Writer-director Harmony Korine's (SPRING BREAKERS) debut feature GUMMO has managed to divide critics and movie-lovers with its unapologeticaly banal glimpse of the grittier side of life on the wrong side of the tracks in a poverty-sticken, quasi-dystopian rural mid-Western town. In terms of its unique visual (albeit graphic) style, themes, and loose, sometimes impressionistic narrative structure, GUMMO has much in common with another indie-art film that utilized an ensemble and loose vignette approach to telling the stories of its adolescent protagonists, KIDS (which Korine also wrote).
