Trailer-park teenager Lance Guest (Alex Rogan) is an average American kid who regularly escapes from his humdrum mid-80s existence by playing video games - and he's really good at one in particular, 'Starfighter.' After finally achieving the high score, he attracts the attention of the game's designer, the affable Centauri (Robert Preston), who reveals that Starfighter is actually a training ground for developing and recruiting pilots to help fight a real war... In space. Soon, Alex is whisked away to the outer reaches of the galaxy, where Starfighter is being played for real - and with deadly consequence and lives at stake. Alex is compelled to join Centauri's Star League to do battle with the evil Kodan forces, and gets some help along the way from the lizard-like Grig (Dan O'Herlihy).
