Loving Vincent

Loving Vincent

1:15pm - Sunday, Mar 4, 2018

This feature-length painted animation -- the first film of its kind, and currently nominated for a Best Animated Feature Academy Award -- explores the life and unusual death of celebrated painter Vincent Van Gogh via depictions of his artworks, bringing the paintings to life to tell his remarkable story. Every one of the 65,000 frames of the film is an oil-painting, hand-painted by 125 professional oil-painters who traveled from all across the world to the LOVING VINCENT studios in Poland and Greece to be a part of the production. As remarkable as Vincent’s brilliant paintings is the story of his passionate and ill-fated life, and his mysterious death.

"A triumph of painstaking technical prowess and stunning visuals over storytelling and dialogue. See it for its nuanced take on a huge cultural figure and to applaud its astounding audacity." (Empire Magazine)

"LOVING VINCENT is almost too beautiful for its own good; I found myself, too often, so dazzled by the form that I quite forgot about the content." (Seattle Times)

"It is a phenomenal technical accomplishment, elevated to dazzling heights by a stunning cast, gorgeous score and touching story that unleashes the artist inside us all." (Film Inquiry)
