Hard Rubber Orchestra pays tribute to one of the most influential progressive rock bands of all time, and brings the music of King Crimson to life at the Rio Theatre for one night only! Joining HRO for this very special show are vocalist Erik Severinson and MC/vocalist Leanne Dunic. Arrangements of some of King Crimson’s greatest compositions have been created for HRO by Fred Stride, Bill Runge, Eric Wettstein, and John Korsrud.

The historic Rio Theatre is the perfect venue for this celebration of (arguably) the greatest prog rock band in history. Recalling the London music halls of the 1970’s, the Rio’s atmosphere will help to create an unforgettable evening.

The Hard Rubber Orchestra will display its virtuosity on instrumentals like Larks Tongue in Aspic Parts 1 & 2 and Red, and will be joined by vocalist Erik Severinson (Space Elevator, Whelming) on monumental KC songs including Court of the Crimson King, Indiscipline and One More Red Nightmare. MC Leanne Dunic (The Deep Cove, Artistic Director of the Powell Street Festival) will join Erik and the orchestra for Frame by Frame, and take the lead on Matte Kudasai. Leanne will be hosting the evening and is a King Crimson scholar who attended KC Rock camp this summer!

Opening the evening is Vancouver’s Juno nominated Peregrine Falls, a driving instrumental duet featuring the incredible musicianship of Gord Grdina (Haram, Dan Mangan) and Kenton Lowen (Dan Mangan, NOW Orchestra). Peregrine Fall’s high-energy virtuosity is the perfect appetizer for an entrée of King Crimson.

Formed in 1990, the Hard Rubber Orchestra, one of Canada’s most active and unpredictable ensembles of new music and recipient of the 2005 Alcan Arts Award, has released 4 CDs, including the newly released Suite for Hard Rubber by Kenny Wheeler (Justin Time Records), toured across Canada and to Europe, and produced large scale productions including Cantata for a King, and The Ice Age, a new music ice show.
