"You'll shoot your eye out, kid."
For many people, the magic of the holiday season does not hit until (and perhaps unless) the nostalgic and utterly hilarious cinematic chestnut about a boy in the 1940s whose only real desire is to have Santa Claus gift him an official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle screens on their TV. This year, Christmas is coming early because director Bob Clark's 1980s classic A CHRISTMAS STORY is getting some seasonal big screen love at the Rio Theatre on Sunday, December 20. Naddafinga!
A CHRISTMAS STORY (Bob Clark, 1983 / 94 mins) | Based on the humorous writings of author Jean Shepherd, this beloved holiday movie follows the wintry exploits of youngster Ralphie Parker, who spends most of his time dodging a bully and dreaming of his ideal Christmas gift, a "Red Ryder air rifle." Frequently at odds with his cranky dad but comforted by his doting mother, Ralphie struggles to make it to Christmas Day with his glasses and his hopes intact.
