Freaks (Advance Screening with Filmmaker Q&A!)
Directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein's FREAKS portrays the story of 7-year-old Chloe, (Lexy Kolker), who lives in both fear under her father's (Emile Hirsch) protective and paranoid control, and fascination of the outside world, where
Abnormals" create a constant threat - or so she believes. When a mysterious stranger (Bruce Dern) offers her a glimpse of what's really happening outside, Chloe soon finds that while the truth isn't so simple, the danger is very real.
The Rio Theatre is beyond excited to welcome filmmakers, including Vancouver's own Zach Lipovsky, to this special sneak peak for a post-screening Q&A.
"A tight yarn whose structural cleverness makes it easy to ignore the deeply familiar story at its core." (Variety)
"Visually stunning and emotionally honest, FREAKS is a fascinating take on paranoia and what makes people special, but its bloat makes it start to veer into being too much of a good thing." (Rue Morgue Magazine)
"There's a dollop of Stephen King and a dash of "X-Men" to Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein's sci-fi/horror grabber." (San Jose Mercury News)
