If there were an award for Most Ambitious Zombie Comedy of 2018, it would surely have to go to writer-director Shin'ichirô Ueda's feature debut ONE CUT OF The DEAD, a modest entry that has rapidly gone on to become a massive international festival favourite around the world (taking top honours at Fantastic Fest, Fantaspoa, and 15 others) and a box-office sensation in japan, where it recently passed the 2 million admissions mark - grossing over $1000 times its budget. It's the "little zombie comedy that could!" And it's headed back to the Rio Theatre on September 17!

A cast of relative unknowns, a brilliantly disguised low budget and an epic, 37-minute opening single take makes for a bright, breezy and laugh-out-loud hilarious zombie comedy set around a film crew shooting a zombie horror flick. Just as the director browbeats his actors and demands more special effects blood, a real zombie apocalypse erupts, much to his auteur delight.
