RoboCop
"Dead or alive you're coming with me!"
The Rio Theatre's Friday Late Night Movie series continues on December 6 with Paul Verhoeven's 1987 sci-fi action juggernaut ROBOCOP, an action film that balances ultra-violence with black comedy and cutting social satire. Set in a violent, near-apocalyptic Detroit, evil corporation Omni Consumer Products wins a contract from the city government to privatize the police force. To test their crime-eradicating cyborgs, the company leads street cop Alex Murphy into an armed confrontation with crime lord Boddicker so they can use his body to support their untested RoboCop prototype. But when RoboCop learns of the company's nefarious plans, he turns on his masters. Starring Peter Weller, Nancy Allen, Dan O'Herlihy, Kurtwood Smith, Miguel Ferrer, and Ronny Cox.
"When the law-enforcing RoboCop cleans up corrupt Motown, his victory is satisfying because he's got machinery and morals on his side. RoboCop is where high-tech meets High Noon." (Philadelphia Enquirer)
