FIRST PERSON PLURAL
Special Preview Screening
Followed by Q&A with director Eric Tretbar

On Thanksgiving Day, two Minneapolis filmmakers—the son of a Somali imam and daughter of a white Baptist preacher—fall in love through their lenses and bring together their estranged families for Thanksgiving dinner.  Created before our eyes by its film making characters, FIRST PERSON PLURAL shows how the images we create and consume can bring understanding, but also destruction.  From award-winning director Eric Tretbar, this story of happy love and sad love reminds us that while love can conquer all, it’s fragile, and needs our care and courage.

Starring Faysal Ahmed (CAPT PHILLIPS, SICARIO 2, CASTLE ROCK) and Amanda Day (THE SEEKER).  With activist-filmmaker Fathia Absie (THE LOBBY), writer Ahmed Ismail Yusuf (The Lion’s Binding Oath), and Pearce Bunting (BOARDWALK EMPIRE).

“Amazing and engaging movie that shows families are the same and love knows no barriers.” (BBC NEWS / Somali)

“The racism, the questions of assimilation, are serious, but humor can open surprising paths to empathy.” (MINNESOTA MONTHLY MAGAZINE)

FIRST PERSON PLURAL (Eric Tretbar / 2019 DCP / Winter Light Films / 92 min / PG)  Alone on Thanksgiving Day, Faysal and Bettina meet, fall in love, and discover their lives and families are mirror images.  In filming each other, they see themselves.  But their families begin to intervene, soon thrown together for a meeting of cultures and rituals that will test their love and belief.
