Black Panther

6:15pm - Monday, Jul 13, 2020

Writer-director Ryan Coogler's epic origin story BLACK PANTHER made box office history in 2018 as the first major Black superhero origin story in the famed Marvel universe, equally embraced by audiences and critics alike. Featuring outstanding performances by an all-star cast (including Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett and more), the film follows T'Challa (Boseman) who, after the events of 'Captain America: Civil War,' returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T'Challa's mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.

"Virtually everything that distinguishes "Black Panther" from past Marvel pics works to this standalone entry's advantage." (Variety)

"'Black Panther' lived up to the hype. (New York Times)

"When it comes to creative visuals, engaging action and likable characters, "Black Panther" stands confidently next to the best fare offered up by the Marvel Cinematic Universe." (Salon.com)

"Each man and woman...is resplendent in Ruth Carter's traditional costumes. Indigenous dialects are spoken amid the space flights, museum heists, and car chases." (indiewire)

BLACK PANTHER (Ryan Coogler, 2018 / 134 mins / PG) King T'Challa returns home from America to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country's new leader. However, T'Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne by factions within his own country as well as without. Using powers reserved to Wakandan kings, T'Challa assumes the Black Panther mantel to join with girlfriend Nakia, the queen-mother, his princess-kid sister, members of the Dora Milaje (the Wakandan 'special forces') and an American secret agent, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war.
