Charles Bukowski Double Bill: Live in Vancouver 1979 + Barfly

7:30pm - Friday, Nov 21, 2014

The Rio Theatre presents a double bill celebrating the work of the late legendary writer Charles Bukowski - the filmed live in Vancouver spoken word performance "There's Gonna Be a God Damn Riot in Here" and the semi autobiographical cult classic movie "Barfly."

Friday November 21st - doors 7pm. Admission is $10.
Licensed screening with bar service (19+; 2 pieces of ID required).

7:30 pm "THERE'S GONNA BE A GOD DAMN RIOT IN HERE" - In 1979 Charles Bukowski made his final live spoken word appearance (outside of the US) at the Viking Inn in downtown Vancouver BC. The performance was filmed and the footage was thought to be lost until it was discovered almost 25 years later at Bukowski's widow's house. Presented by Dennis B Del Torre, the organizer of the original event.

9:30pm "BARFLY" - Mickey Rourke & Faye Dunaway star in this semi-autographical 1987 comedy-drama written by Bukowski and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Barbet Schroeder. Rourke plays Henry Chinaski, a heavy drinking hell-raising writer whose existence is suddenly shaken up when he's "discovered" by a major publisher.
