Set against the chaotic backdrop of American troops storming the beaches of Normandy, the film follows earnest Ranger Captain John Miller (Hanks - never better), tasked with leading seven men to bravely penetrate German-held territory in an effort to bring one Private Ryan home, at the behest of the US government.
