Gerald's Game: In Conversation with Mike Flanagan and Carla Gugino

"Unsurprisingly, the film is [Mike Flanagan's] most accomplished to date, the result of the years he's spent giving a damn about his characters and their anguish. He's so good at it, he even makes it look easy." (Hollywood Reporter)

"It's a barnstorming showcase for Gugino, so often underused, who tackles a difficult, physically restricted role with gusto." (Guardian)
"When the movie arrives at a phenomenal, breakneck climax, and then keeps going with a totally implausible twist, it's adhering to the unwritten rule: No matter who's driving, everyone must bow to the King." (IndieWire)

Mike Flanagan has been making waves in the world of horror filmmaking for years, and made a particularly bloody splash last year with his wildly popular (not to mention terrifyingly binge-worthy) Netflix series "Midnight Mass." He has an especially storied connection to the adapted works of Stephen King; following GERALD'S GAME in 2017, he was hand-picked by the legendary author himself to breathe life to his 2013 novel, DOCTOR SLEEP (the long-awaited follow-up to THE SHiNiNG, adapted into a seminal work of horror cinema by Stanley Kubrick) to the big screen in 2019. Flanagan is one of the most exciting genre creators of the moment, whose unique and valuable perspective on the craft itself will be of interest to anyone with a love of horror, and filmmaking in general. Following their work together on GERALD'S GAME, Flanagan and Gugino's professional association has continued in the Netflix universe, with the supernatural anthology series "The Haunting of Hill House," the gothic romance "The Haunting of Bly Manor," and the upcoming "The Fall of the House of Usher" (currently shooting in Vancouver).

GERALD'S GAME (Mike Flanagan, 2017 / 107 mins) When her husband's sex game goes wrong, Jessie (who is handcuffed to a bed in a remote lake house) faces warped visions, dark secrets and a dire choice.
