Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds (in her feature debut!) and Donald O'Connor star in one of the most iconic films from Hollywood's "golden era," filled with memorable songs, lavish routines and Kelly's legendary song-and-dance number performed in the rain.
Set during the advent of "talkies," this film's classic song-and-dance numbers celebrate the beginning of movie musicals. Gene Kelly (who also co-directed the film) stars as Don Lockwood, a man who has has risen to stardom during Hollywood's silent-movie era paired with the beautiful, jealous and dumb Lina Lamont. When Lockwood becomes attracted to the fresh, young studio singer Kathy Selden (Reynolds), Lamont has her fired. But with the introduction of talking pictures, Lockwood finds his career in jeopardy after audiences laugh when they hear Lamont speak in her shrill voice for the first time... until the studio decides to use Selden to dub her voice.
