The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

"That's just what this country needs: A cock in a frock on a rock. "

Our Friday Late Night Movie series is getting dressed up and in the mood for Vancouver Pride 2022 with a screening of writer-director Stephan Elliot's glittering delight The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. One of our most-resquested titles, this iconic Australian road trip movie is quite unlike any other, its story veering from hilarious, to sweet, tender, and even into occasional (hilarious) filth. A landmark film when it was released in 1994, it has since become both a cultural touchstone in the LGBTQ community and a mainstream cult-classic, its broad appeal appeal standing squarely on the shoulders of remarkable, standout performances from Terence Stamp, Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce.

Set in Australia, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert follows three career drag queens who travel from Sydney to perform at a remote resort in the outback aboard their lavender bus, nicknamed "Priscilla." The film is both eye and ear candy; underscored by a killer dance soundtrack with gorgeous cinematography capturing the magical beauty of the Australian landscape and the queens' sparkling collection of drool-worthy outfits (that also garnered an Oscar for Best Costume).
