Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
The Rio Theatre's Friday Late Night Movie series continues on Friday, August 12 with a screening of STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME, in tribute to the late, great actress Nichelle Nichols, who made history for her portrayal of Lieutenant Uhura in the beloved sci-fi franchise.
Directed by Leonard Nimoy (Spock) and released in 1986 STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME is the fourth installment in the franchise, and functions effectively as the sequel to the 1984 entry THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK and completes the story arc begun in STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN. The film follows the former crew of the USS Enterprise who, intent on returning home to Earth to face trial for their actions in the previous film, finds the planet in grave danger from an alien probe attempting to contact now-extinct humpback whales. The crew travel to Earth's past (or, 20th century America) to find whales who can answer the probe's call.
