"The only way to get rid of my fears is to make films about them."

Join us on Saturday, August 13 as we celebrate the birthday of the "Master of Suspense," Alfred Hitchcock. In 2017, after a whopping 50 years at the top of the Sight & Sound magazine's esteemed poll of film critics, academics, cineastes and distributors that determines their "50 Greatest Films of All Time," Orson Welles’ debut film CITIZEN KANE was ousted by Alfred Hitchcock’s 45th feature, VERTIGO.

An erotic rumination on obsession and paranoia, it is considered, by many, to be his greatest cinematic achievement. James Stewart stars as an ex-police officer with an intense fear of heights who is hired to surveil an old friend's wife in the hopes of preventing her from committing suicide.  But all is not as it seems, as his work moves from voyeurism to obsession. (It goes without saying that Hitchcock's haunting, compelling work is uniquely revelatory about the director's own predilections and hang-ups.) Also starring Kim Novak, and Barbara Bel Geddes.

"Alfred Hitchcock is daring us to leap. He has prepared the ultimate fix for a cinema junkie: a movie to get lost in." (Rolling Stone)

"An unpredictable scary thriller that doubles as a mournful meditation on love, loss, and human comfort." (Rotten Tomatoes)

"Why is this movie Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece? Because no movie plunges us more deeply into the dizzying heart of erotic obsession." (Newsweek)
