Oscar-winning Chilean director Sebastián Lelio (A FANTASTIC WOMAN, GLORIA) excels in telling stories centred on the lives of ordinary women in extraordinary circumstances, and THE WONDER is no exception. Here, he turns his lens back to Victorian-era Ireland in a psychological thriller inspired by the 19th century phenomenon of the "fasting girls," and adapted from the acclaimed novel by Emma Donoghue (ROOM).

The Irish Midlands, 1862 -- a young girl stops eating but remains miraculously alive and well. English nurse Lib Wright (Oscar-nominee Florence Pugh, in another fantastic performance) is brought to a tiny village to observe eleven-year old Anna O'Donnell. Tourists and pilgrims mass to witness the girl who is said to have survived without food for months. Is the village harboring a saint 'surviving on manna from heaven' or are there more ominous motives at work? With Kíla Lord Cassidy.

"The Wonder's spare, muted intrigue hangs mostly on Pugh and atmosphere, an elusive minor-key mystery." (Entertainment Weekly)

"Pugh’s performance is all-business, like a 19th-century Dana Scully in a town full of Mulders." (New York Post)

"A drama this ambitious demands a fearless performer like Florence Pugh, who knows exactly the tightrope to walk when it comes to the story’s delicate balance between realism and melodrama." (RogerEbert.com)

“The Wonder” undeniably resonates in these confounding times concerning belief, fact and manipulation." (Los Angeles Times)
