Meet Me In The Bathroom (Encore Screening)

Join us at the Rio Theatre for MEET ME IN THE BATHROOM, an immersive journey through the New York music scene of the early 2000s featuring never-before-seen footage of artists like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Strokes, Interpol and LCD Soundsystem. Set against the backdrop of 9/11, the film tells the story of how a new generation kick started a musical rebirth for New York City that reverberated around the world.

The film, which is directed by Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern (SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS), premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival and was inspired Lizzy Goodman's 2017 book of the same name.

"A fascinating time capsule of millennial cultural history." (Little White Lies)

"A euphoric and romanticized ode to the rock 'n' roll renaissance of early 2000s New York." (RogerEbert.com)

"Offering a vivid time capsule of New York rock culture at the turn of the millennium, Southern and Lovelace’s film explores the early years of the Strokes, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, LCD Soundsystem and others as they stumbled their way from ramshackle clubs and rooftop parties to festival stages and breathless press coverage. Drawn entirely from archival footage, concert clips, home movies and contemporaneous interviews, the film is uninterested in offering a beginners’ guide to the scene’s bands, nor any after-the-fact context, instead piecing together an experiential collage of primary sources that tries to replicate what it might have felt like to rub shoulders with Albert Hammond Jr. while drinking a warm PBR in some smoky LES dive. If it’s sometimes a little rough around the edges and not always structurally coherent, well, the same was true of these bands." (Variety)
