The Banshees of Inisherin

British-Irish writer-director Martin McDonagh struck gold in 2022 with the black tragicomedy THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN, which saw him re-uniting with the charismatic IN BRUGES duo Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson as two old friends whose relationship takes an unexpected turn. The film was either nominated for or won numerous BAFTAS (where it took home the trophy for Best British Film, and acting awards for Farrell and Kerry Condon), and Oscars (where it received a whopping nine nominations).

Set on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland at the tail end of the Irish Civil War in 1923 , THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN follows lifelong friends Pádraic (Farrell) and Colm (Gleeson), who find themselves at an impasse when Colm unexpectedly puts an end to their friendship. A stunned Pádraic, aided by his sister Siobhán and troubled young islander Dominic, endeavours to repair the relationship, refusing to take no for an answer. But Pádraic's repeated efforts only strengthen his former friend’s resolve and when Colm delivers a desperate ultimatum, events swiftly escalate, with shocking consequences. With Barry Keoghan.

"Condon and Keoghan give “Banshees” extra personality and verve, while Farrell and Gleeson are the two halves of its beating heart." (USA Today)

"Gleeson and Farrell revive their mesmerizing interplay, surrounded by breathtaking Irish scenery and a brilliant ensemble cast." (Chicago Sun-Times)

"It’s visually stunning and consistently witty while being unafraid to ask serious questions about life as it is, and should be, lived. It is proper art." (Times UK)

"Writer-director Martin McDonagh’s soulful masterpiece offers a a windswept elegy on a camaraderie that has reached its inexplicable expiration, as well as melancholic rumination on mortality." (AV Club)
