The Descent
The Rio Theatre's Friday Late Night Movie series continues on March 8 (International Women's Day!) with a modern masterpiece of British horror that also manages to pass the Bechdel Test: THE DESCENT.
A year after a severe emotional trauma, Sarah goes to North Carolina to spend some time exploring caves with her friends; after descending underground, the women find strange cave paintings and evidence of an earlier expedition, then learn they are not alone: Underground predators inhabit the crevasses, and they have a taste for human flesh. With Shauna Mulder, Natalie Mendoza, Saskia Mulder.
"Deft direction and strong performances from its all-female cast guide The Descent, a riveting, claustrophobic horror film." (Rotten Tomatoes)
"Brutal, bloody, terrifying, astonishing... And so tense it'll leave you aching. The most significant Brit chiller since 28 Days Later." (Empire Magazine)
"THE DESCENT sustains a level of intensity that most horror films can barely muster for five minutes." (AV Club)
"Tense, gory and masterfully malevolent." (Total Film)
