The Teachers' Lounge
When Carla Nowak, a dedicated sports and math teacher, starts her first job at a high school in Germany, she stands out among the new staff because of her idealism. When a series of thefts occur at the school and one of her students is suspected, she decides to get to the bottom of the matter on her own. Carla tries to mediate between outraged parents, opinionated colleagues and aggressive students, but is relentlessly confronted with the structures of the school system. The more desperately she tries to do everything right, the more the young teacher threatens to break. With Leonie Benesch, Michael Klammer, Rafael Stachowiak, Eva Löbau.
THE TEACHERS' LOUNGE is Germany's submission for Best International Feature at this year's Oscars, where it is currently nominated.
"A nail-biting thriller in which director İlker Çatak and sensational star Leonie Benesch turn a tale of petty theft at a German middle school into a battle between freedom of expression and institutional control all too easily recognizable as our own." (ABC News)
"A taut and tight examination of the concept of justice folded into an absorbing character study." (Los Angeles Times)
"It's not easy to make an intense thriller about things that could actually happen. But when one appears, it's glorious." (RogerEbert.com)
