Dope
A coming-of-age comedy/drama for the post hip-hop generation.
Following its premiere at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, DOPE (featuring the music of Executive Producer Pharrell Williams) has become one of the true breakout hits of Summer 2015, raking in almost $20 million in box office (not bad for an indie film with a $700k budget!). The film follows geeky Malcolm (Shameik Moore) who is surviving life in a tough LA neigbourhood filled gangsters and drugs dealers while juggling his senior year of college applications, interviews and the SAT. A chance invitation to a big underground party leads Malcolm and his friends into a gritty adventure filled with offbeat characters and bad choices. If Malcolm can persevere, he’ll go from being a geek, to being dope, to ultimately being himself.
