Brian De Palma's 'Carrie' (4K Restoration)

"They're all gonna laugh at you!"

The Rio Theatre's annual deep-dive into Halloween movie goodness continues on Monday, October 28 with a double dose of Brian de Palma in a night featuring a 50th Anniversary screening of the legendary rock opera THE PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE with the new 4K restoration on CARRIE. See one, or see 'em both for one sweet price!

In this chilling adaptation of Stephen King's horror novel, withdrawn and sensitive teen Carrie White (Sissy Spacek) faces taunting from classmates at school and abuse from her fanatically pious mother (Piper Laurie) at home. When strange occurrences start happening around Carrie, she begins to suspect that she has supernatural powers. Invited to the prom by the empathetic Tommy Ross (William Katt), Carrie tries to let her guard down, but things eventually take a dark and violent turn. With John Travolta, Amy Irving.

"'Carrie' is a terrifying lyrical thriller. The director, Brian De Palma, has mastered a teasing style -- a perverse mixture of comedy and horror and tension." (New Yorker)

"Grounded by the incredible and unforgettable performance of Sissy Spacek and the masterful direction of De Palma, Carrie is a horror masterpiece that defies convention and proves itself timeless." (Film Inquiry)

"It opens with an insidiously brilliant update of Psycho's shower scene and ends with a jump scare that Hitchcock would have envied; in between, it's merely the tenderest and most affecting movie ever made out of one of King's novels." (The Ringer)

As always, audience costumes (including ghoulish prom attire!) are very welcome - and encouraged!
