A Nightmare on Elm Street (40th Anniversary Screening)
"One, two, Freddy's coming for you
Three, four, better lock your door
Five, six, grab your crucifix
Seven, eight, gonna stay up late
Nine, ten, never sleep again..."
This one's for all the 80s kids out there! The Rio Theatre's Friday Late Night Movie series continues on November 15 with a 40th Anniversary screening of the late, great Wes Craven's original 1984 horror classic A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET.
In this seminal slasher, several Midwestern teenagers fall prey to Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund, in a truly iconic performance), a disfigured midnight mangler who preys on the teenagers in their dreams -- which, in turn, kills them in reality.
After investigating the phenomenon, Nancy (Heather Langenkamp) begins to suspect that a dark secret kept by her and her friends' parents may be the key to unraveling the mystery, but can Nancy and her boyfriend Glen (Johnny Depp) solve the puzzle before it's too late?
"Freddy Krueger, dream killer, makes his debut. Gore galore." (The New York Times)
"What makes Freddy truly terrifying, and an inspired invention on Craven's part, is that he exists not in the real world but in the shadowy realm of dreams." (Empire Magazine)
