Listen to Me & A Streetcar Named Desire

Listen to Me & A Streetcar Named Desire

6:30pm - Friday, Oct 23, 2015

Tennessee Williams' Pulitzer Prize-winning play A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE is one of the most celebrated American works of the 20th century, as is director Elia Kazan's film adaptation of it. Starring Marlon Brando, Vivien Leigh, Karl Malden and Kim Hunter, the film marked the first of four consecutive Oscar nominations for Marlon Brando, while Leigh, Malden, and Hunter took home trophies for their performances. This compelling drama follows troubled former schoolteacher Blanche DuBois (Leigh) as she leaves small-town Mississippi and moves in with her sister, Stella Kowalski (Hunter), and her husband, Stanley (Brando), in New Orleans. Blanche's flirtatious Southern-belle presence causes problems for Stella and Stanley, who already have a volatile relationship, leading to even greater conflict in the Kowalski household.
