Kids (30th Annviersary Screening)
One of the most quietly provocative and controversial indie films of the 1990s, Larry Clark’s groundbreaking KIDS chronicles a frenetic day-in-the-life of a group of contemporary teenagers in New York City. Notable for Clark's signature eye for capturing breathtaking photographic images, KIDS is a hard watch; it offers a deeply affecting, no holds-barred landscape of words and images, depicting with raw honesty the experiences, attitudes and uncertainties of innocence lost.
Featuring a screenplay from a 19-year old Harmony Korine (who was "discovered" by Clark while skateboarding in Washington Square Park), the film assembles an impressive cast of first-time actors, including Chloë Sevigny and Rosario Dawson in their breakout roles.
"Frightening, frank and serious, a wake-up call to the world." (New York Times)
"None of the advance hype on Kids can prepare you for the raw, stripped-down reality that Larry Clark captures in his astonishing first film." (San Francsico Chronicle)
"'Kids' is the kind of movie that needs to be talked about afterward." (Roger Ebert)
"'Kids' is an emotional sucker punch, a raw, dirty, disturbing piece of cinema verité filmmaking that simultaneously hooks and repulses you from its opening scenes." (Austin Chronicle)
