The Grand Budapest Hotel

Considered by many to be his "magnum opus," Wes Anderson's glorious THE GRAND BUDAPEST perfectly places the filmmaker's signature style against a compelling narrative brought to life thanks to stellar performances from an ensemble of A-listers. Adapted from the works of Austrian author Stefan Zweig, the film absolutely revels in its nostalgic, romanticized version of an era that exudes a refined elegance while simultaneously being pinned to a reality of the inevitable, forthcoming upheaval that will ultimately define mid-century Europe.

Set in the 1930s, the Grand Budapest Hotel is a popular European ski resort, presided over by the exceedingly charming concierge, Gustave H. (Ralph Fiennes). Zero, a junior lobby boy, becomes Gustave's friend and protege. Gustave prides himself on providing first-class service to the hotel's guests, including satisfying the sexual needs of the many elderly women who stay there. When one of Gustave's lovers dies mysteriously, Gustave finds himself the recipient of a priceless painting and the chief suspect in her murder. With F. Murray Abraham, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Harvey Keitel, Jude Law, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Saoirse Ronan, Jason Schwartzman, Léa Seydoux, Tom Wilkinson, Owen Wilson, Tilda Swinton, and Tony Revolori.

"Wes Anderson blends his trademark fanciness with a more rompish style of humour than usual." (Financial Times)

"From the start, it's clear Anderson is working with a new sophistication both in the vocabulary and structure of the film's voiceover narrations." (Globe and Mail)

"Discerning travellers and Wes Anderson fans will luxuriate in the glorious Mittel-European kitsch of one of the director's funniest and most exquisitely designed movies in years." (The Times)

"Anderson's films are too precious for some, but for those of us willing to lose ourselves in them, they're a delight. "The Grand Budapest Hotel" is no different, except that he has added a hint of gravitas to the mix, improving the recipe." (Arizona Republic)
