Mamoru Oshii's landmark 1995 anime film GHOST IN THE SHELL is a title that has evolved into something of a cultural phenomenon, spawning sequels, remakes, and even a live action feature. The story follows a cyborg policewoman named Motoko Kusanagi, who is herself a "ghost in a shell" (meaning her living consciousness is somewhere being projected into a organic/mechanical body).
