Beats Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest
Because music lives forever.
Can you kick it? Yes, you can. Join us on Tuesday, May 3 for a double bill to toast, honour, and celebrate two of our absolute, hands down, no questions asked and don’t think twice about it all-time favourite bands – A Tribe Called Quest and The Beastie Boys.
Director Michael Rappaport’s BEATS, RHYMES & LIFE: THE TRAVELS OF A TRIBE CALLED QUEST documents both the incredible backstory and interpersonal drama of one of hip-hop’s most influential and innovative bands, and features interviews with members including Phife Dawg, Q-Tip, and Ali Shaheed Muhammad as well as commentary from The Beastie Boys, De La Soul, the Jungle Brothers, Questlove, Mos Def, Pharrell, and others.

BEATS, RHYMES & LIFE: THE TRAVELS OF A TRIBE CALLED QUEST (Michael Rappaport, 2011 / 97 mins) | Actor Michael Rapaport examines the music of the 1990s hip-hop A Tribe Called Quest as well as the conflicts that drove the band members apart.
AWESOME; I FUCKIN' SHOT THAT (Adam Yauch, 2006 / 90 mins) | The Beastie Boys let their fans do the shooting in a concert film that truly puts the viewer right in the middle of all the action. With a mix of fifty DV and Hi-8 cameras distributed to shutter-bug fans, director Nathaniel Hornblower and supervising editor Neal Usatin skillfully edit the resulting amateur footage into a kaleidoscopic, rough-edged take on the typically slick, professionally shot concert video.
