June is Stroke Month, one of the main awareness and fundraising campaign periods for the Heart and Stroke

Foundation. Every year an estimated 62,000 Canadians suffer a stroke; that’s one stroke every 9 minutes. Stroke is the third leading cause of death, and the leading cause of adult disability in Canada. The Heart and Stroke Foundation is working hard to change these statistics and provide better treatment options and resources for stroke survivors. Recent examples include:

- The new F-A-S-T: Signs of Stroke campaign

- Our new Living with Stroke survivor support program

- and an exciting breakthrough in treatment from a recent research project that is having a huge impact on survival and disability statistics.

Join us for Strumming for Stroke and help raise much needed funds to support the lifesaving work of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The Foundation’s mission work is focused on preventing disease, saving lives and promoting recovery which is accomplished through funding best-in-class research, health promotion, and advocacy. Since the Foundation began its work in 1952, the death rate from cardiovascular disease has been reduced by more than 75 per cent. Healthy lives free of heart disease and stroke. Together we will make it happen.
