Sold: Filmmaker in Attendance

3:30pm - Sunday, May 15, 2016

Join us at the Rio Theatre for the Vancouver Premiere of Oscar and Emmy-winning director Jeffrey D. Brown's powerful film SOLD, adapted from the acclaimed novel by Patricia McCormick (which was itself inspired by true stories). Starring Gillian Anderson and David Arquette, SOLD is the story of Lakshmi, who journeys from a pastoral, rural village in Nepal to a gritty brothel in Kolkata, India. Through one extraordinary girl’s story, SOLD illustrates the brutality of child trafficking, which affects millions of children around the globe every year. Globally the average age of a trafficked girl is thirteen, the same age as the girl in the film. SOLD is a call to action, and a testament to the power and resilience of the human spirit.

SOLD was executive-produced by actress Emma Thompson and produced by Jane Charles (formerly of Vancouver), who will be joining us in-person to discuss the film as part of a post-screening Q&A.
