We're All Going to the World's Fair: Summer of Schoenbrun

In anticipation of Jane Schoenbrun’s upcoming, BC-shot TEENAGE SEX AND DEATH AT CAMP MIASMA, the director’s previous two features, WE’RE ALL GOING TO THE WORLD’S FAIR on Friday, July 24 and I SAW THE TV GLOW on Wednesday, July 29, will screen at the Rio Theatre as part of a "Summer of Schoenbrun" retrospective. Each screening includes a different sneak peek at CAMP MIASMA, ahead of its August 14 release. See one or see them both for one price with a "Summer of Schoenbrun" pass.

Late on a cold night somewhere in the U.S., teenage Casey (Anna Cobb in her feature debut) sits alone in her attic bedroom, scrolling the internet under the glow-in-the-dark stars and black-light posters that blanket the ceiling. She has finally decided to take the World's Fair Challenge, an online role-playing horror game, and embrace the uncertainty it promises. After the initiation, she documents the changes that may or may not be happening to her, adding her experiences to the shuffle of online clips available for the world to see. As she begins to lose herself between dream and reality, a mysterious figure reaches out, claiming to see something special in her uploads. With Michael J. Rogers, Alex Giannascoli.

"Genre-defying, subtly unnerving..." (Vox)

"When the history of 21st century screen-life horror movies gets written—or blogged about—Schoenbrun’s inventive cult favorite will warrant its own chapter." (The Ringer)

"'We’re All Going to the World’s Fair' feels like a weird piece of internet ephemera one might accidentally discover while browsing late at night. The film will resonate with anyone who’s gone down a macabre digital rabbit hole." (The Atlantic)

"A brilliantly distinctive portal into the emotional realities we’ve built online, writer-director Jane Schoenbrun’s debut, “We’re All Going to the World’s Fair,” has coded a story endemic to cyberspace and its visual grammar." (Los Angeles Times)
