A Dirty Shame
From the outrageous John Waters, writer-director of PINK FLAMINGOS and HAIRSPRAY, comes another signature exercise in bad taste. Sylvia Stickles (Tracey Ullman), the owner of a convenience store in a working-class Baltimore neighborhood, suffers a concussion. The injury causes a drastic change in her sexual drive, turning her into a sex addict with crazy, wild and urgent desires and compulsions, much to the joy and then frustration of her husband (Chris Isaak), who has trouble keeping up with her. As Sylvia's insatiable libido reaches fever pitch, her new oversexed personality threatens to tear apart the remnants of what wasn't an entirely perfect family to begin with. And that's A Dirty Shame. With Chris Isaak, Selma Blair, Johnny Knoxville, Mink Stole, Patricia Hearst.
"A genuine cri de couer in the director's long-running battle against the forces of censorship and a banal societal (and cinematic) status quo." (Austin Chronicle)
"A welcome reminder that sex is sometimes too ridiculous to take so seriously." (Premiere Magazine)
"[Waters] hasn't let slick technique take over as has Hollywood, and he retains his radical sensibility and his willingness to go where others haven't." (Washington Post)

A DIRTY SHAME (John Waters, 2004 / 89 mins / 18A) Sylvia Stickles runs a convenience store with her husband and mother-in-law. One day, Sylvia is hit on the head and transforms from an uptight prude to a sex-crazed lunatic. As she goes on a rampage through town, Sylvia attracts the attention of Ray Ray, a sexual healer and tow truck driver in search of the world's greatest orgasm. Their sexual revolution, however, causes a class war in their tiny Baltimore community.
