Kevin Smith's Sunday Cinema Side Hustle: Clerks

"This job would be great if it wasn't for the f***ing customers."

This Fall, come and kick it at the Rio Theatre for Kevin Smith's Sunday Cinema Side Hustle, a retrospective series featuring some of the maverick filmmaker's most beloved works - hosted by the man himself! We're beyond excited to welcome our "forever friend" (who so generously donated his time and energy to our #SavetheRio campaign in 2018) back to our stage alongside screenings of fan faves including CLERKS, MALLRATS, CHASING AMY, and JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKES BACK. Kevin is a naturally gifted storyteller and engaging orator who manages to fill every show with his trademark insight, stories, hilarious anecdotes, and a smart perspective on both the "the biz" and "this thing we call life." If you've never had occasion to spend some time with him, then consider clearing your calendar and getting a pass - we can't wait!

In 1994, the young writer-director (and Vancouver Film School's most famous dropout) named made a huge splash on the cinematic landscape with his feature debut CLERKS; an oddball, brazen, occasionally filthy (snowball!) yet thoroughly independent effort that centered on a day-in-the-life of a group of Gen-X employees at a convenience store in New Jersey...

The rest, as they say, is history.

"CLERKS is so utterly authentic that its heroes have never heard of their generation." (Roger Ebert)

"CLERKS remains a defining debut, a symbolic shot into the darkened domain of legitimate moviemaking." (Pop Matters)

CLERKS
12:00 pm | Event 1:00 pm *SHARP. (We mean it.)

CLERKS (Kevin Smith, 1994 / 92 mins / 18A) Convenience and video store clerks Dante and Randal are sharp-witted, potty-mouthed and bored out of their minds. So in between needling customers, the counter jockeys play hockey on the roof, visit a funeral home and deal with their love lives.
