Closet Monster
A closeted Newfoundland teen named Oscar (Connor Jessup) dreams of becoming a special-effects makeup artist, and is terrified of his macho father finding out the truth about his sexuality. When he falls for Wilder (Aliocha Schneider), a handsome, worldly co-worker at the hardware store, he is forced to confront his fears. Also starring Mary Walsh, Isabella Rossellini, and Aaron Abrams.
Written and directed by Stephen Dunn, CLOSET MONSTER made its world premiere at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.
"If there is any doubt that this country's young filmmakers need all the institutional support they can get, then 'Closet Monster' offers the definitive answer: God, yes, please!" (Globe and Mail)
"Dunn's debut is a truly unique coming out story, not to mention a highly original Canadian film." (The National Post)
"There are many things to like about this Newfoundland-set coming-of-age/coming-out/quasi-body-horror picture, not the least of which are Bobby Shore's low-key, obstacle-laden camerawork and a carefully calibrated performance by Connor Jessup." (NOW Toronto)
"Dunn's off-kilter risks show the same kind of daring that's made Xavier Dolan a star." (The Georgia Straight)
