Moonlight

Easily one of 2016's most memorable and important films, director Barry Jenkins' luminous MOONLIGHT had been an audience and critical darling for months, and was recently honoured with three Oscars - including Best Supporting Actor for Mahershala Ali, Best Adapted Screenplay, and (of course) Best Picture.

A timeless coming-of-age story centered on themes of self-discovery and interpersonal connection, MOONLIGHT chronicles the life of a young black man - from childhood, through adolescence and into adulthood - as he struggles to find his place in the world while growing up in a rough neighborhood of Miami. Also starring Best Supporting Actress nominee Naomie Harris and Janelle Monáe.

"Moonlight is both a disarmingly, at times almost unbearably personal film and an urgent social document, a hard look at American reality and a poem written in light, music and vivid human faces." (The New York Times)

"Moonlight is at its most eloquent when its subtext is soft-spoken." (Sight & Sound)

"A genre-defying film. Its visual splendour belies its tough, surface-level subject matter, while the performances pull us deep below that surface with their soulful naturalism." (Empire Magazine)
