Paint It Black (Director Amber Tamblyn Skyping in for Q&A!)
In her feature film directorial debut, actress and author Amber Tamblyn's (THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS) PAINT IT BLACK is a searing look at two very different women struggling to cope with grief in the aftermath of an inexplicable suicide. Adapted from Janet Finch's acclaimed 2006 novel of the same name, the film stars Alia Shawkat, (TV's 'Arrested Development,' GREEN ROOM) two-time Oscar nominee Janet McTeer, (ALBERT NOBBS), Alfred Molina and Simon Helberg. Director Amber Tamblyn is set to join us for a Skype Q&A following the screening!
What happens to a dream when the dreamer is gone? PAINT IT BLACK is the story of Josie (Shawkat), a young woman dealing with the aftermath of her lover Michael's death, and her struggle to hold onto the true world he shared with her. As Josie searches for the key to understanding his death, she finds herself both repelled and attracted to Michael's pianist mother, Meredith (McTeer), who holds Josie responsible for her son's torment. Soon, the two women find themselves drawn into a twisted relationship reflecting equal parts distrust and blind need.
"With a dynamite central performance from Alia Shawkat, Amber Tamblyn's directorial debut embraces strength and vulnerability in equal measure." (IndieWire)
"A visually stunning exploration of grief." (BUST Magazine)
"The film probes the experience of grief in a subjective, intuitive manner, and it achieves remarkable intensity in exploring this theme." (The Hollywood Reporter)
