"I just happened to be nowhere near your neighborhood."
In the wake of Chris Cornell's untimely passing, everyone here at the Rio Theatre has been left reminiscing about the fabled, plaid flannel- coated soundtrack to the "Dream of the 90s," and talking about what we (now) consider to be one of rock's richest eras. Cameron Crowe's 1992 romantic comedy ensemble (Matt Dillon, Bridget Fonda, Kyra Sedgewick, Campbell Scott) SINGLES perfectly captured the spirit of the ascending days of Seattle's burgeoning grunge/alt scene and that notorious Gen-X 'tude; in addition to its own groundbreaking soundtrack (a hallmark of every Crowe film, SINGLES includes Cornell's solo contribution"Seasons" and the Soundgarden track "Birth Ritual"), the film itself features also features an onscreen cameo from Cornell as well as Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, and Eddie Vedder (playing members of the fictional band in the film, Citizen Dick).

SINGLES (Cameron Crowe, 1992 / 99 mins / PG) Romantic comedy about six of Seattle's young people, most of whom live in the same apartment building and whose lives revolve around the city's ever-expanding music scene. The interrelated stories about each character's progress through the singles scene are intriguing and often very funny, and the soundtrack is a grunge fanatic's dream, with the likes of Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, and Mudhoney.
