Dread Central Presents: The Lodgers
Following its World Premiere at TIFF and its European Premiere as Sitges Film Festival's closing night film, director Brian O'Malley's (2015's criminally under-seen LET US PREY) exquisite, sensual and chilling work of pure gothic horror, THE LODGERS, is coming to the Rio Theatre on Friday, February 23 as part of the Dread Central Presents screening series.
Set in 1920, rural Ireland, Anglo-Irish twins Rachel (Charlotte Vega) and Edward (Bill Milner, DUNKIRK) share a strange existence in their crumbling family estate. Each night, the property becomes the domain of a sinister presence (The Lodgers) which enforces three rules upon the twins: they must be in bed by midnight; they may not permit an outsider past the threshold; and if one attempts to escape, the life of the other is placed in jeopardy. When troubled war veteran Sean (Eugene Simons, GAME OF THRONES) returns to the nearby village, he is immediately drawn to the mysterious Rachel, who in turn begins to break the rules set out by The Lodgers. The consequences pull Rachel into a deadly confrontation with her brother - and with the curse that haunts them. Also starring David Bradley (GAME OF THRONES).
"As a ripe chunk of pure baroque atmosphere, this lushly staged costume chiller is a fragrant beauty indeed." (Variety)
"Finely attuned filmmaking." (Hollywood Reporter)
"THE LODGERS is an almost pornographically Gothic movie. If you adore this sort of stuff -- and I most certainly do -- you'll eat every inch of it." (ComingSoon.net)
"Like a rich work of gothic literature, THE LODGERS weaves a tale of dark ancestry and a damning heritage inflicted upon two innocents, nestled in the woods outside the view of prying townsfolk eyes." (ScreenAnarchy)
