Mandy
Writer-director Panos Cosmatos follows up his feature debut, 2010's hyper-stylish midnighter BEYOND THE BLACK RAINBOW, with one of the year's most buzzed about titles - the punishing, blood-soaked hallucinogenic revenge odyssey MANDY. Set in the Pacific Northwest's Shadow Mountains in 1983, Red (Nicolas Cage, in what many are calling a career-defining performance) and Mandy (Andrea Riseborough) lead a loving and peaceful existence. When their pine-scented haven is savagely destroyed, Red is catapulted into a phantasmagoric journey filled with bloody vengeance - and laced with fire.
"Mandy's gonzo violence is fueled by a gripping performance by Nicolas Cage -- and anchored with palpable emotion conveyed between his volcanic outbursts." (Rotten Tomatoes)
"The movie's imagery is consistently unearthly; its pacing has a magisterial weight. Call it pulp Tarkovsky, maybe." (The New York Times)
"If revenge films are a dime a dozen, then Mandy cost a bunch of dimes. The plot is straightforward but visually, aurally, symbolically, it's a heavy motion picture that may be too much for some audiences to handle." (The Wrap)
