Wayne Wapeemukwa is an Indigenous (Michif) filmmaker and philosopher based in Canada. His debut feature, Luk’Luk’I, premiered at TIFF, where it won Best Canadian First Feature, as well as the DGC's Discovery Prize for Best New Director. His second feature, Manhunt, opened the International Competition at the Locarno Film Festival, where it received Third Prize from the Junior Jury, and continues its international festival run. MANHUNT had its world premiere in competition at Locarno Film Festival.

Early twenties Iris (Jillian Frank) and Palmer (Avalon Fast) never left their hometown. They work at the same restaurant, share the same bed, and both have a habit of drinking and driving. They run into Levi (Ethan Hawksworth), a guy they used to know. They spend time with him and his cousin, Phoenix (Henri Gillespi), in cars, backyards, and other people's bedrooms. When Levi shares a dream he had with Iris, things change between the four of them. The reality of the summer becomes faded, the parties die. The four end in a field of unified confusion.

Summer’s over and all it was was grey skies and looking for the next twisted tea to shotgun. DRINKING AND DRIVING captures the wonderfully dreadful stuckness of living in the lacuna that people call “out here.” A meditation on the depths of interconnectedness in the samsara of rural BC. Oh, and it’s the funniest films we’ve seen all year.

Athletes explore the intricacies of dissecting a big mountain line, the physics and amplitude of a massive gap, calculating transition, and the force of gravity.

LOS RIOS premiered in Toronto at the 2026 Canadian Film Fest where it took home a Jury award for Impact. Directors Dale Bailey and Ryan Fyfe-Brown followed three little girls and their mother as they walked and hitchhiked across Mexico after leaving their homes in Honduras due to gang threats, hoping to gain political asylum in the USA, during Trump’s first midterm elections in 2018. They were part of a large exodus of migrants from Central America, known as “The Migrant Caravan” which at times reached ~10,000 people strong.

The film was filmed and edited by Dale Bailey and the soundtrack was created by Will Quiring, known for the Saskatoon bands Close Talker and Parkland.

TONY (Matt Johnson, 2026 / 106 mins / 14A) A 19-year-old Anthony Bourdain travels to Provincetown and stumbles into the chaotic world of a restaurant kitchen, setting off a summer that will shape the course of his life.

Lloyd Cole will take to the road in 2026 with a run of solo shows in North America, including a stop in Vancouver at the Rio Theatre on Thursday, October 15. His elegant solo live performances in recent years have been predominantly acoustic, but for these concerts he has decided to go electric. The performance will run the gamut from his masterful debut with the Commotions ‘Rattlesnakes’ right up to 2023’s acclaimed ‘On Pain’ touching on all points in between.

Says Lloyd: “In 1999, in retreat from mainstream ambivalence, the idea of becoming a troubadour was perversely alluring. Two acoustic guitars, a suitcase, and a round the world ticket. It took a while for me to become comfortable with it, but The Folksinger Show became my staple. And then, somehow or other, twenty-five years were gone, and now I find myself approaching the end of my career, and wanting to be seen more as just a singer, who wrote a body of work, very little of which one would reasonably label ‘folk’. So I’m back with my Telecaster, my Princeton amp, and my solo show is now electric.”

Dino Archie is a previous winner of the Seattle International Comedy Competition. He has also won Best Crowd Work at the Just For Laughs New West festival. He was selected for the prestigious Just For Laughs Montreal Nasty Show and later returned as the host of the Just For Laughs NW Nasty Show.
He has been featured on Kevin Hart’s LOL Network, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Crave Roast Battles, and YouTube’s Don’t Tell Comedy.

Join us at the Rio Theatre for a very special screening of Joe Dante's classic 1984 horror-comedy GREMLINS, followed by a conversation with its star, actor Zach Galligan. Zach (who played Billy Peltzer in both the original film and its 1990 sequel, GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH) will be on-hand following the film to chat about the iconic franchise, share memories and stories, and take your questions. The evening's festivities will be hosted and moderated by Tanner Zipchen.

Even better? Following the Q&A, every ticket-holder will have a chance to get a Christmas photo with Zach and Gizmo - so deck the halls and dust off your favourite seasonally-appropriate sweater!

When a gadget salesman is looking for that special Christmas gift for his son Billy, he happens upon something totally unusual at an old store in Chinatown. Though the shopkeeper is reluctant to sell him the adorable "Mogwai," creature, he sells it to him anyway -  with a few important caveats. Never expose him to bright light, water, or to feed him after midnight. When the instructions aren't followed, chaos ensues when a gang of mischevious, lizard-like gremlins appear, wreaking havoc and tearing up the Norman Rockwell-esque  town on Christmas Eve. Rafaella Rabinovich is an internationally trained, award-winning costume designer working across film, television, and live performance. Outback Presents is proud to announce that viral storyteller, author, and live performer Davide de Pierro will bring his unique live storytelling experience to Canada this fall with three special performances, including at the Rio Theatre on Sunday, November 1 - Monday, November 2.

Known for his candid reflections on relationships and the everyday moments that define the human experience, De Pierro has built a devoted online following of more than 6 million across TikTok and Instagram, where his commentary on dating, personal growth, and modern life regularly reaches millions of viewers.

Inspired by his newly released novel The Letters I Never Sent, the live show blends personal storytelling, humor, and audience conversation. Throughout the night, De Pierro will deliver a monologue and read selections from the book, followed by an open Q&A with the audience. The evening’s feature film, INSIDE THE SEASON, comes from HEAD Freeskiing & Jeff Thomas Creative and follows the HEAD & TYROLIA global freeski team through an eventful winter around the world. From early-season preparation and road trips to storm cycles, team hangs and unforgettable days in the mountains, the film mixes incredible ski action with a behind-the-scenes look at everything that goes into a season on the move.

The night also features THE WAY OF SNOW | Yuki no Michi, a short film from Japan featuring two Whistler athletes and a distinctly different perspective on life in the mountains.

Composer Claudio Simonetti has written and recorded some of the most influential scores and soundtracks in horror, including SUSPIRIA, DAWN OF THE DEAD, DEEP RED / PROFONDO ROSSO, DEMONS and many others, with his seminal work still informing the genre to this day.

This year, Simonetti's Goblin returns to the Rio Theatre to celebrate Dario Argento's critically-acclaimed 1982 classic, TENEBRE, with a live performance of the score set to a screening of the film. Following the finale of the movie, the collective will return after a brief intermission to deliver an additional performance of quintessential Goblin material and "best of" songs and scores set to their cinematic counterparts.

The evening features many of Ms. Mitchell’s most iconic songs performed live by a full band and vocalists, set against a visual backdrop of her extraordinary artwork. Interspersed with video clips of interviews with the artist across her vast and storied career, the show is a heartfelt homage to the remarkable legacy of this truly multifaceted artist.

A regular on the Sydney comedy circuit, Jenny Tian exploded onto our #fyp during the pandemic notching up millions of likes and amassing a collective online audience of 1M+. Her debut solo show Picture This sold out to audiences up and down the east coast of Australia and was released as a YouTube special where it has nearly a million views. Her second hour Chinese Australian: A Tale of Internet Fame sold out across Australia and took her to her first ever runs at the Edinburgh Fringe and West End's Boulevard Theatre, also selling out both. Off the back of her stand up success, Jenny has secured spots on the lineup for the 2024, 2025, and 2026 Melbourne International Comedy Festival Galas and as a cast member in season 2 of Taskmaster AU, the latter earning her a Logie nomination for Best New Talent.

After a stint in London, Jenny is now living in New York and just completed her first US tour of her most recent hour, the aptly titled Jenny’s Travels, and has been named by Deadline as a stand-up to keep an eye on in 2026. Recently announced as a recipient of Screen Aus and YouTube’s funding initiative, Skip Ahead, Jenny is in post-production on Dupermarket, a web series that she's starring in and co-writing with Patrick Golamco. CHRISTOPHER TITUS is a prolific stand-up comedian, writer, actor, and producer. As a creator, he has sold shows to NBC, ABC, FOX and Comedy Central. His wildly innovative multi-cam half hour Titus premiered to critical and audience acclaim on Fox, earning the show an Emmy nomination, while Titus himself received a WGA Award nomination for his writing. Following Titus, Christopher starred in ABC’s Big Shots, acting opposite Dylan McDermott, Michael Vartan and Josh Malina.

He also starred in the NBC one-hour pilot, Future Tense and created and starred in the Bryan Cranston-directed pilot, Special Unit for Comedy Central. And he recently wrote, directed, and starred in a feature version of Special Unit
which won the L.A. Film Award for Best Comedy Feature and the Hope Film Awards jury prize for Best Director.

Christopher has written and starred in ten 90-minute comedy specials, with several spending months on the Billboard Top 10 comedy chart. He recently released his tenth special, Carrying Monsters, a bookend companion piece to
Norman Rockwell is Bleeding (his very first show and the source material for the Fox series). His podcast, The Armageddon Update/Titus Podcast has over 10 million downloads. During the worst days of the pandemic, he used his self-owned studio as a safe space to exec produce and direct specials for Ron Funches, Fortune Feimster and Everlast.

Christopher is currently touring his new show, DOOMED TO REPEAT to sold-out audiences at clubs and theaters across the country. With a take-no-prisoners wit and years of experience writing hilariously edgy and poignant comedy, Christopher Titus is a voice unlike any other.

Shaun Majumder is a beloved Canadian comedian who has been active on the scene for more than two decades. He currently stars as “Father Khatri” in MGM+‘s acclaimed series FROM and recently appeared as “Gary” in Peacock’s THE MINIATURE WIFE, opposite Elizabeth Banks and Matthew Macfadyen. His recent work also includes portraying “Dr. Voor” in STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS. Equally adept in comedy and drama, Shaun’s screen credits include 24, THE FIRM, DETROIT 1-8-7, UNHITCHED, and CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER PRESENTS.

Susan Rice was recently featured in Vulture Magazine for her widely popular appearance on Don't Tell Comedy, that garnered over 1 millions views. Susan has made appearance on ABC, NBC, HBO, Showtime, and comedy central. Moving to Los Angeles in 1986 brought Ttlevision credits and allowed her to open for comics like Jerry Seinfeld, Rich Shydner, Paula Poundstone, and recently Maria Bamford and Arsenio Hall. In the last 10 years, Rice has found her niche in fundraising and organizing charity events such as the first-ever St. Johns Comedy Festival held in her own neighborhood of N. Portland. It will help bring laughter back, and promote local small businesses.

Psychic Standup is a show unlike any other. KAREN RONTOWSKI combines her 35 years as a standup comic with her 25 years of tarot reading and the results are predictably hilarious.
